With over 300 miles of coastline and countless rivers, the Oregon coast is a water sports paradise. Saltwater fishermen ply the coastal waters in the spring and fall for Chinook (king) and Coho (silver) salmon, and seek bottom fish like halibut, year-round. Many anglers perfer to pursue salmon and steelhead trout on lighter tackle once they reach fresh water on their migration runs; whether you prefer spin or fly fishing, there are rivers with ample fish populations up and down the coast, and OGPA guides ready to lead the way. Kayakers and whitewater rafters visit the mighty Rogue River in southern Oregon to test their boating skils. Many favor an extended float through the Rogue's Wild and Scenic section -- limited access helps assure a quality experience. Visitors who have less time can still experience the beauty of the Lower Rogue by taking a jet boat tour from the river's lower reaches. Hunters will find healthy elk populations in the Coastal Range, which runs the length of the state. |
